Bad Homburg, Germany
Fresenius Kabi announced the second winner of the JUMPstart Research Grant during the 2021 European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ESPEN) Virtual Congress. The €250,000 grant will build and strengthen evidence-based knowledge around parenteral nutrition in critically ill patients, improving care of the most vulnerable group.
Fresenius Kabi as one of the global market leaders in clinical nutrition, developed the JUMPstart program to improve healthcare professionals’ clinical nutrition research skills and give them the opportunity to apply for the €250,000 JUMPstart Research Grant to support their research idea.
Nineteen researchers from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, New Zealand, North and South America took part in the second edition of the JUMPstart program. The participants are a mix of clinicians, dieticians, pharmacists and researchers related to critical care.
The independent JUMPstart scientific committee, composed of five professors, leading international clinicians and research experts, Mette Berger (Switzerland), Olav Rooyackers (Sweden), Robert Martindale (USA), Ho-Seong Han (South Korea) and Tim Friede (Germany), was in charge of delivering the virtual training and selecting the grant winner.
Choosing a winner was a difficult task for the JUMPstart Scientific Committee as they were impressed by the quality of the submitted research projects.
Professor Berger, the JUMPstart Scientific Committee Chair, announced the second winner of the €250,000 JUMPstart Research Grant during the Fresenius Kabi virtual symposium at the 2021 ESPEN Virtual Congress. The JUMPstart Research Grant goes to Stefan Schaller from the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany and his project “Improved muscle metabolism by combination of muscle activation and protein substitution: a randomized, outcome-assessor blinded, proof-of concept study (IMEMPRO Study)”.
With the JUMPstart education program and research grant, Fresenius Kabi supports the next generation clinical nutrition experts who will contribute to advancement in nutrition care in critically ill patients.
The possible outcome of the study will support the relevancy of clinical nutrition during critical illness. The research project will run for two years and the results will be presented and published in 2024.
