The Surgery Best Practice and Nutrition Initiative was driven by international experts from Italy, Spain and Germany. Based on the group discussion outcome, two publications have been published and are available via open access:

  • Senkal et. al. (2021): Peripheral PN supporting major gastrointestinal surgery
    • Peripheral PN aligned with the ERAS concept
    • Expert opinions regarding patient treatment
    • Best practice considerations for PPN during the critical perioperative period including the ERAS concept may help to improve clinical outcomes
  • Durán-Poveda et. al. (2022): Parenteral Nutrition (PN) practices in enhanced recovery programs
    • Parenteral Nutrition in surgery due to PN guidance and ERAS protocols
    • Exploratory survey: 130 GI surgeons from different European countries participated.
    • 69% agreed, that PPN is in line with the ERAS concept of minimally invasive approaches.
